More than a memory! On Sunday, July 5, Princess Charlotte was christened at the Sandringham estate in England. It was a beautiful moment in British history, but it also marked a touching moment in the royal family as Charlotte’s late grandmother, Princess Diana, was honored in several big ways.

In addition to one of Charlotte’s middle names being Diana (her other is after her great-grandmother Elizabeth), Kate Middleton and Prince William also honored Diana simply by choosing the location. The Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Sandringham was where a less-than-2-month-old Diana was christened in 1961.

Diana’s niece Laura Fellowes was also named one of five of Charlotte’s official godparents. Laura’s mother is Cynthia Jane Fellowes, one of Diana’s older sisters.

And in a final nod to the late royal, famed photographer Mario Testino — one of Diana’s favorites — was chosen to take the official christening portraits.

Diana tragically died at the age of 36 in a car accident in August 1997. When Prince William proposed to Kate Middleton in 2010, he used his mother’s engagement ring from Prince Charles.
